Travel AI's reckoning has arrived: hotels buy on ROI now
Skift published an analysis this week that everyone buying hotel tech should read: Travel's AI Reckoning Has Arrived. Sarah Kopit and Seth Borko separate the noise from what already pays off. Travel AI is moving out of pilot mode and into review, with ROI as the yardstick.
Here's what I'd flag for hoteliers:
- Data is the real fuel. No clean data on occupancy, ADR or distribution costs, and no AI tool can make good calls. It's still the missing base for many owners.
- Trust grows from concrete use cases. A guest values a reservation change or an incident being solved on the first try over a fancy chatbot.
- ROI wins. Experimental projects that can't be measured are losing budget to ones that show revenue gains in pricing, revenue management and direct booking.
My read is optimistic: the end of the hype is the best thing that could happen to hotel AI. When the conversation drops to data and results, solid solutions gain ground and hoteliers buy with judgment. Next time a vendor talks AI, ask for the data and the return on investment.
