Sercotel turns nine hotels into innovation labs
Sercotel announced early in the year that it would be bringing startups into its hotels. Now, together with consultancy Seidor, they are turning nine properties into real-world innovation labs. The initiative is called OpenStay Lab and it is already testing solutions under live conditions.
The four selected startups are working on:
- Operational efficiency
- Sustainability
- Automation
- Data management and guest experience
My take: this is exactly what the sector needs. No more proof of concepts in conference rooms. Putting technology into the daily grind of a hotel forces it to work or get dropped. According to Hosteltur, the goal is to identify what can be scaled across the rest of the chain. I find that a brave and practical approach. If the project proves ROI across nine hotels, rolling it out to the 200+ properties Sercotel operates will just be a matter of time.
