HCN (Hotel Communication Network) has teamed up with Artography to turn in-room tablets into full-blown art galleries. The integration gives guests at four- and five-star hotels in the US and Canada access to a library of over 200,000 licensed artworks. They can browse, zoom in, and buy any piece straight from the tablet, with home delivery included.

This is not just a nice amenity. For hoteliers, it’s a direct revenue opportunity with zero inventory risk. The art is digital, the sale is handled by Artography, and the hotel takes a cut. My take: this is the kind of non-intrusive upsellUpsellingUpselling is convincing a guest to move up to a better version of what they were already buying. A room with a view, a suite or a rate with breakfast are typical cases. It raises the ticket without acquiring a new cus... that actually improves the guest experience. No pushy sales, just discovery. And for a guest who loves the hotel’s aesthetic, buying the artwork on the wall is a natural impulse.

If you’re running a boutique or luxury property, this is worth a look. Read the full announcement on HospitalityNet.

Quick questions

What is HCN?
HCN (Hotel Communication Network) provides in-room tablets and digital concierge solutions to hotels, enabling guests to order services, browse info, and now buy art.
How does Artography work?
Artography curates a digital library of over 200,000 artworks from real artists. Hotels integrate it into their tablets, and guests can purchase prints for home delivery.

Which hotels are eligible?
The partnership targets four- and five-star hotels in the US and Canada. It’s aimed at properties that already use HCN tablets.
Is this a big revenue source for hotels?
It depends on adoption, but even a few sales per room per year can add up. More importantly, it differentiates the guest experience and creates a new touchpoint.
